Some Herbal Remedies

well, my throat has been hurting lately, so I though I'd share a couple of recipes that I make and use for sore throats and colds and whatnot. Enjoy!

Herbal tonic for sore throats.

take a glass, and add in 1 Tbs of raw honey and lemon juice from one lemon. Fill almost full with black tea, stir, and add in a shot of scotch, brandy, or rum, whichever you prefer.
the lemon and honey will sooth the throat, and the alcohol numbs the pain.

Milk drink for lost voices and sore throats and any other cold

Take 3 cups of whole milk, and pour into a saucepan. add in 2 tablespoons each of ginger root, turmeric root, and black peppercorns, plus one clove of raw garlic. simmer on low heat till it froths. then take off of the stove, strain out the spices, and drink as warm as you can manage, but be careful not to burn your throat. wrap your neck in a warm, preferably wool, scarf.

Tea for sleeping when you have a cold and you can't go to sleep

mix equal parts of chamomile, lavander, valerian, and dandelion root. Steep 1 1/2 tablespoons in boiling water when you can't sleep when you have a cold (or when you just can't sleep in general).

also, my mom is trying to treat my dad's arthritis, so I thought I'd share the tonic with you as well:

Tonic for arthritis

stuff a jar with white raisins plus 2 tablespoons of juniper berries. fill to the brim with gin. let sit for two weeks. you don't really need to refrigerate it, as the alcohol content will make it keep. when the two weeks are over, drink two tablespoons a day of the elixer. Or maybe its a tincture...I'm not really sure what the alcohol content is, so I can't say for sure. but enjoy!
